Reserve Fromenteau Chardonnay
2018 Chardonnay, Tumbarumba, New South Wales
6 Pack - $325.00
Description
"Medium to light yellow, bright colour. Roasted hazelnuts with a smoky note on the nose, the taste light-bodied and lean-ish, elegantly restrained and taut, quite dry to close, with a long, even, nicely modulated palate. The aftertaste is moreish. A chardonnay with a future." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

- Vineyard Notes
Tumbarumba - Cool climate.
- Winemaking
We chose a cold climate fruit, and carefully deliberated on the oak regime. Tumbarumba has impressive limestone foundation, lending itself to creating a mineraity you can taste.
- Tasting Notes
Full flavoured and elegantly structured as we endeavour for this range of our wines. The minerality shines through, typical of Tumbarumba, also exhibiting hints of melon and apple, supported by integration of French oak.

- Story
‘Fromenteau’ is the historical French name for the chardonnay grape, meaning ‘golden grain/golden berry’. It referred to wheat, and the chardonnay grapes that are small and golden in colour.
John made this personal discovery back in 1980 when he was asked by Murray Tyrell for research about the origins of Chardonnay - predominantly from Burgundy. While pouring over pages and books John found the term Fromenteau and decided then that one day his Reserve wine would be listed under this moniker.
John Cassegrain earned his stripes with Chardonnay at Tyrell’s during this pioneering stage. What John learned during this time has inspired the bottles you are sampling now.
This variety is special to Cassegrain Wines, as Chardonnay was a part of our first vintage 40 years ago.
- Halliday Wine Companion
"High quality vanilla pod oak guides riffs of nectarine, mandarin and white peach across a chord of flinty mineral and tangy acidity, a kernel of nuts and nougatine at the core. Mid-weighted. Just. Fresh and dutifully vibrant." - Ned Goodwin MW, Halliday Wine Companion
