Welcome to Cassegrain Wines in Port Macquarie, a place where passion, heritage, and innovation come together to create exceptional Australian wines. Our winery is a testament to the Cassegrain family’s commitment to producing world-class wines for over 35 years.
Descended from an old wine making family in France, Cassegrain Wines uses a rich knowledge of traditional French winemaking methods combined with modern Australian technique and technology to create a diverse portfolio of wines.
Cassegrain operates as a multi-regional producer sourcing fruit from across NSW including Orange, Rylstone, Tumbarumba, New England, Hilltops and the Hunter Valley.
All steps in the winemaking process from crushing through to bottling and labeling are completed onsite at Cassegrain’s modern, purpose-built facility.
The Cassegrain family began winemaking in France in 1643.
After settling in Australia, they forged the revival of winemaking in the Hastings River region with the planting of the first vineyard near Port Macquarie in 1980. Cassegrain Wines was first opened in 1985, with the winery enjoying much success over the last three decades including many awards and accolades including our very own Alex Cassegrain winning the coveted Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology’s (ASVO) Wine Maker of the Year in 2021.
Alex and Philippe Cassegrain grew up in the vineyard and have learnt the time honoured winemaking practices which have been passed through the generations; pioneered by their father John Cassegrain.
John has since handed the reins of the winery to his sons. Cassegrain Wines is now under new management by Aviner Vigneron – a dynamic amalgamation of seasoned wine experts and astute investors which will usher in a promising era of growth and innovation for our celebrated winery.
Avenir Vigneron includes Alex Cassegrain and Philippe Cassegrain, who live and breathe the Cassegrain brand. Joining them are Shiana Tyler, Managing Director of Binmint Pty Ltd, and Selva Saverimuttu, Chairman of Horizons Golf Resort, along with Link and Bob Bale, Directors of Bale Defence.
The core philosophy at Cassegrain Wines is the marriage of traditional French winemaking methods with modern Australian technology, an innovative approach that gives Cassegrain Wines a unique point of difference. The result is a diverse portfolio of full flavoured, yet soft and elegantly styled wines.
As a multi-regional producer, this approach allows Cassegrain Wines to focus on the strengths of each region, blending fruit and crafting wines of complexity and real interest, but true to style and variety. Vineyard parcels come from growers throughout NSW who are dedicated to producing outstanding fruit; with the principal aim being to ensure that the characteristic flavours of the fruit are maintained and enhanced during the winemaking process, delivering excellence in each and every bottle.
