Reserve Fromenteau Chardonnay
2022 Chardonnay, Tumbarumba, New South Wales
"Light straw hue. Grilled nuts and ripe pineapple aromatics. Tight and fresh on the palate pineapple and grapefruit at the centre with saline mineral notes accentuated by a crunchy acidity. Good length and precision to the end." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review

- Winemaking
This wine epitomises the best Chardonnay's from Tumbarumba, exhibiting a complex array of characters while still being elegant and true to its origins. This particular Chardonnay was hand selected, gently pressed, and fermented in 100% new 500ltr French oak puncheons.
- Tasting Notes
It is well supported by an abundance of aromatics such as lemon tart, a touch of apple, and melon. The palate leaves nothing to be desired with a crisp acid structure and savoury palate. This is balanced by toasty oak, and minerality that will shine through and support this wine as it continues to age.

- Story
‘Fromenteau’ is the historical French name for the chardonnay grape, meaning ‘golden grain/golden berry’. It referred to wheat, and the chardonnay grapes that are small and golden in colour.
John made this personal discovery back in 1980 when he was asked by Murray Tyrell for research about the origins of Chardonnay - predominantly from Burgundy. While pouring over pages and books John found the term Fromenteau and decided then that one day his Reserve wine would be listed under this moniker.
John Cassegrain earned his stripes with Chardonnay at Tyrell’s during this pioneering stage. What John learned during this time has inspired the bottles you are sampling now.
This variety is special to Cassegrain Wines, as Chardonnay was a part of our first vintage 40 years ago.
- Halliday Wine Companion
"Lemon balm, lime curd and white nectarines. Sugar cookies, nutmeg and cold butter. A tide pool of acidity that reaches right to the back palate; it takes a moment till the nougat and creamy nature of the cashew and nougat rings in. In a good drinking window now." - Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion
