Reserve Fromenteau Chardonnay
2021 Chardonnay, Tumbarumba, New South Wales
6 Pack - $375.00 | 12 Pack - $675.00
Description
"Pale straw hue. Burnt fig, white nectarine and oyster brine aromatics. Nectarine and nashi fruit sits in the central core with warm nougat and oyster brine offering contrasting savoury characters. Acidity has it under control, allowing it to show some creaminess without filling too much so the drive to the long finish has clarity and purpose." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review

- Vineyard Notes
Tumbarumba - Cool climate.
- Winemaking
This particular chardonnay was hand selected and fermented in 100% brand new 500L French puncheons.
- Tasting Notes
It is well supported by an abundance of aromatics such as lemon tart, fresh apple, and a touch of melon. It's palate leaves nothing to be desired with a crisp acid structure, touch of buttery characters, and savoury body. Over time the minerality, synonymous with Tumbarumba will shine through as it continues to support this wine as it ages.

- Story
‘Fromenteau’ is the historical French name for the chardonnay grape, meaning ‘golden grain/golden berry’. It referred to wheat, and the chardonnay grapes that are small and golden in colour.
John made this personal discovery back in 1980 when he was asked by Murray Tyrell for research about the origins of Chardonnay - predominantly from Burgundy. While pouring over pages and books John found the term Fromenteau and decided then that one day his Reserve wine would be listed under this moniker.
John Cassegrain earned his stripes with Chardonnay at Tyrell’s during this pioneering stage. What John learned during this time has inspired the bottles you are sampling now.
This variety is special to Cassegrain Wines, as Chardonnay was a part of our first vintage 40 years ago.
- Halliday Wine Companion
"All the shades of gold. The wine is filled with candied lemons, cantaloupe and pineapple chunks. Oak is significant and captures the vanilla and buttercream icing of old-fashioned cakes. Acidity peaks with some sour peach candies. Cumquat oil on the finish." - Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion
